Pol Castells, employee in the Quality Department and sponsored by Metalcaucho, announces his withdrawal from the Catalunya Promotion Championship (CCP). The various mechanical problems that his car, a Peugeot 206 XS Engine 1.6, has suffered in recent races have been the main reason for the young driver to take this difficult decision. Giving up this season, he now has to think about the next one, for which he is already preparing a new car, a Citroën Saxo 8V, and with which he hopes to resume his passion for rallying with renewed enthusiasm.
After an exciting season start, with a creditable third place in May, at the Ciutat de Valls Rally, the first setback came in July, at the Osona Rally, where several mechanical problems forced them to abandon the race early. The recent Cervera Rally (2nd Abel Puig Memorial), held on September 4, was the trigger for this drastic decision. His car only lasted 2 km on the road. Again a fault in the gear forced him to withdraw.
These last few days he has been pondering his decision and in the end he has opted to make a clean slate: « We have suffered mechanical problems since the beginning of the year, and after the halfway point of the season we have no options to fight for the title. I am not ready to continue competing for now, and I think the best thing is to give me a break« , reflected Pol Castells.
He temporarily says goodbye to the Catalunya Rally Championship with a bittersweet flavor, as Pol affirms that « we have shown that when things go well we have rhythm ». He also takes the opportunity to dedicate a few words of gratitude to rivals and sponsors: « We wish all the luck in the world to the teammates who play the CCP, it has been a pleasure to fight with them in such a healthy way. I also wanted to thank for their effort to the team, sponsors, friends and family, for always being by our side and supporting us. »
And from now on what? According to Pol Castells, now he has to « focus on preparing and finishing our own Citroën Saxo 8V unit, and then we will see what decision we make ». What is clear is that he still has a lot of future ahead of him, and this is only a turning point in his career as a driver, a bad experience from which to learn and continue to grow in the motor world. From Metalcaucho we want to thank him for his commitment to the project and encourage him to continue fighting for his dreams.
