A car sponsored by Metalcaucho runs on its own the canceled Panda Raid

The company had contributed with spare parts for the two vehicles of Sant Cugat Team

Although the race was canceled, two members of the Sant Cugat Team decided to continue the adventure to enjoy a very particular experience

Metalcaucho had again bet on sponsoring the Sant Cugat Team to run the Panda Raid, a long distance and endurance amateur rally held annually in Morocco. However, as part of the fight against the risk of propagation of the coronavirus, the Ministry of Tourism of Morocco on March 5, two days before the start of the race and with the majority of vehicles passing the technical checks in Almeria (Spain), took the decision to ban all sporting events in Moroccan territory, including the Panda Raid.

Despite the hard blow that was the cancellation for the Sant Cugat Team, did not end with his illusion, so one of the vehicles, formed by Ubaldo de Azpiazu, a veteran of the race with four participations and a meritorious third place the year 2018, and his son Ignasi de Azpiazu, crossed the Strait of Gibraltar to continue the adventure on their own. This week they will be doing the tour of Morocco without the pressure of the competition, but enjoying the experience of their particular Panda Raid.

The contribution of Metalcaucho was with what they do best, through spare parts in rubber and metal for the two vehicles with which they were to participate, a Seat Panda and a Seat Marbella. These are spare parts difficult to find because of their age, but for some reason their slogan is If it exists, Metalcaucho has it. In addition, on this occasion they also accompanied the team on March 4 at the presentation ceremony in front of the town hall of Sant Cugat del Valles, a Barcelona town very close to the facilities of the spare parts company. It was a day among friends and that aroused the interest of many neighbors who came to see the vehicles and learn more about Metalcaucho’s task.

The other tandem of the team, formed by Joan Molinera and Luis González, had to return to their homes, but they did not lose their sports spirit and on their way back home they stopped to help a broken partner. Those are the values of a race that in this edition had reached its record of registered, with 375 teams ready to live the experience of a very particular event, with a spirit of solidarity and a romanticism that few races can offer. Surely for the next edition Metalcaucho will be present again, as it has done in the past, as they are values that are shared and worthy of its support.
